Scout Cardinal, LCSW

(Rebecca Holmes)
Teletherapist

Scout Cardinal (they/she) received a Masters in Social Work from Tulane University, where they also completed a certificate program in Disaster Relief and Collective Trauma. Scout is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia.

Scout has many years of experience in community mental health as well as community organizing spaces that inform their person-centered and client-led approaches to therapy. Scout is trained in Brainspotting, a modality that uses focused mindfulness and eye position to process complex trauma.

As an Autistic practitioner, Scout takes a neurodiversity-affirming approach to mental health, and believes that the goal of therapy should be discovering ways to be our most authentic self while building supportive community. Scout is passionate about working with neurodivergent clients, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and people experiencing complex trauma.

A firm believer that strong communities are the best mental health intervention, Scout loves working with families, friends, couples, polycules, or any groups of multiple people who want to work together to build loving relationships. In sessions, Scout aims to build a secure, accepting place to explore the ways our experiences have shaped our perceptions of self and the world around us.

Outside of their work as a Therapist, Scout enjoys working in their greenhouse, knitting, spinning, and playing with natural dye techniques, kayaking the Clinch River, and reading speculative fiction.
