For the majority of the last decade, Mike has served as a coach, community program director, and a public school counselor, directly supporting children, teens, young adults, and families in the process. He has therapeutic experience related to social and behavioral expectations, developmental delays, ADHD, emotional regulation, anger and aggression, anxiety, depression, trauma, boundary setting, eating disorders, peer issues, boy’s/men’s issues, self-harm, and grief/loss.
Mike enjoys cultivating authentic, non-judgmental, and meaningful relationships with others. He views this as one of the most rewarding aspects of his work. As a Resident in Counseling with MySpectrum, Mike looks to collaborate with clients towards the creation of healthy thought patterns, an increased self-awareness, and the achievement of therapeutic goals and personal growth.
His evidence-based approach to counseling aims to “teach a client to fish”, providing tools, knowledge, and practices that can be taken forward and incorporated into one’s daily life. Mike uses Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Person-Centered, and Solutions-Focused therapy techniques to assist clients in modifying thoughts and behaviors, and achieving self-betterment. His personal application of therapy also incorporates aspects of mindfulness practices, play therapy, expressive arts therapy, and family therapy.
When not at work, Mike enjoys being outdoors, spending time with family and pets, reading, and cooking.
