Mike earned his Bachelor's degree in Sociology, with an emphasis in Correctional Rehabilitation, from Concord University, where he was also a member of the university's football team. He later earned a Master of Education in Human Development from Lindsey Wilson College. As a first-generation college graduate, he understands the value of perseverance, resilience, and creating opportunities for personal growth. Mike is a Resident in Counseling in the state of Virginia and practices under the supervision of Keith Huffman, LPC, at MySpectrum. You can view Keith's bio here.

Throughout his career, Mike has provided therapeutic services in a variety of settings, giving him a broad perspective and the ability to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. He believes that meaningful change begins with a strong therapeutic relationship. Mike is passionate about meeting clients where they are and providing a safe, welcoming, and nonjudgmental environment where they feel heard, respected, and supported. His goal is to empower clients to overcome obstacles, build on their strengths, and develop the confidence and skills needed to create lasting, positive change.

Mike's clinical experience includes working with individuals experiencing ADHD, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation challenges, anger and aggression, grief and loss, self-harm, boundary-setting concerns, peer and relationship difficulties, and social and behavioral challenges. Mike also has extensive experience working in substance use treatment, community mental health, school-based services, and correctional settings, allowing him to tailor his approach to meet the unique needs of each client.

Mike's counseling style is person-centered, collaborative, and compassionate. He integrates evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients develop practical coping strategies, strengthen resilience, and achieve meaningful, lasting growth.

When he's not in the counseling office, Mike enjoys being a proud girl dad and spending time coaching his daughters' sports teams. He also enjoys exploring new restaurants, spending time outdoors, listening to music, and watching sports with his family. He believes that maintaining balance, staying connected to loved ones, and finding joy in everyday moments are important parts of overall well-being.
