Teletherapist,

Practicing Under the Supervision of
John Berry, LPC

Amber earned their Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from East Tennessee State University and continued their education at ETSU to acquire a Master’s degree in Counseling with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health. Amber is a Resident in Counseling in Virginia, practicing under the supervision of John Berry, LPC, at MySpectrum.

Amber has clinical experience working with adult populations addressing a wide variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, PTSD/CPTSD, sexual trauma, relational issues, grief and loss, ADHD, ASD – Autism Spectrum Disorder (primarily late diagnosed adults), as well as LGBTQIA2S+ identity exploration. During their internship, Amber worked at an inpatient psychiatric facility where they had the opportunity to work with individuals experiencing suicidal ideation, psychosis, trauma/abuse, people navigating disabilities, and those who were in active detox. This internship also provided the opportunity for Amber to facilitate group and individual counseling, provide psychoeducation, resources, and support to people from diverse backgrounds and with a variety of life experiences.

Outside of their traditional education, Amber previously worked as a board member and group facilitator at a nonprofit where they led peer support groups for survivors of sexual abuse and people in the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Amber’s approach to counseling is grounded in the belief that people heal and grow in connection with others, that challenging negative internalized beliefs aids in the improvement of self-esteem, identity development, and the ability to create meaningful and authentic relationships. They understand the impact that societal systems have on the ways that individuals learn to deal with the issues that they encounter, and work to empower clients to feel confident in advocating for themselves. Amber prioritizes meeting clients where they’re at and building a collaborative and supportive space for exploring past and present issues.

Amber practices counseling from the foundation of Relational Cultural Therapy, and utilizes interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and culturally respectful mindfulness techniques.

In their personal life, Amber enjoys spending time with their loved ones and fur babies, traveling to new places, cooking foods from different cultures, reading, spending time engaging in new crafts, practicing self-care, and learning about a variety of topics.
