Barbara received a Bachelors degree in Social Work from Virginia Union University and a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois. Barbara is a Certified Trauma Specialist and has certification in Autism Spectrum Disorder. Barbara has over 26 years of experience providing services to children, adolescents, and adults with a variety of developmental, social, and emotional challenges. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia and New York.

Barbara has provided mental health services to incarcerated adults, the severely mentally ill homeless population, and children and adolescents in school and mental health clinic settings. For 14 years, Barbara provided Social Work services in an urban trauma one hospital to include dialysis, emergency room, oncology, palliative care, and surgical units. Barbara’s areas of specialty are developmental and childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, emotional and behavioral challenges, as well as individuals and families facing a chronic illness (examples include End Stage Renal Disease, Strokes, and Traumatic Brain Injury).

Barbara uses an eclectic approach during the therapeutic process with a focus on trauma informed care; examples of her style include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, and Mindfulness. Barbara customizes the therapeutic process for the specific needs of each client using evidenced-based methods, allowing for flexibility throughout treatment as clients are provided tools throughout the process. Barbara’s experiences and approach led her to MySpectrum, to work with every person on every spectrum.

When not working, Barbara enjoys working in the community, kickboxing, cycling, east coast traveling, spending time with family and friends, and caring for her cat and dog.
