Jodi earned a Bachelor of Arts in Feminist Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Additionally, Jodi earned a certificate in College and Career Counseling from the University of California, Los Angeles. She is a Supervisee in Social Work in Virginia, practicing under the supervision of Eryn Paxton, LCSW, LHMP, at MySpectrum. See Eryn’s bio here:
Jodi was an intern at Here for the Girls, a nonprofit supporting young women living with breast cancer. She also worked as a therapy intern at a private practice using telehealth. Jodi taught best practices in trauma-informed care for decades, with a focus on the needs of young children and caregivers. Writing and mindfulness practice have played a central role in Jodi’s career.
Jodi’s counseling approach is grounded in Narrative Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Narrative Therapy invites people to consider the stories they tell about themselves. Narrative Therapy can help people learn more about what they value and how to enact these values in their daily lives. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy offers a way to challenge thought patterns. CBT helps people develop new strategies to build on their strengths. Jodi also uses other modalities to best fit the needs of each client as they seek to achieve their goals.
Jodi enjoys working with a wide range of clients. She is LGBTQIA+ affirming and is well versed in multiple faith traditions and interfaith work. Jodi has a particular interest in the mental health of young children and parents.
When not working, Jodi weaves, writes, hikes with her family, and volunteers her time in the local community. She is a lifelong social justice activist and advocate with a long history of giving voice to children’s issues.
