Greg Podolak, MSW
Supervisee in Social Work
Outpatient Therapist
Practicing Under the Supervision of Jennifer Brown, LCSW
Greg received his Bachelors degree in Social Work and a Masters degree in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. While Greg was in graduate school, he worked with Richmond Ambulance Authority. He was born and raised in New York, but has resided in Virginia since 2018. He is an MSW Supervisee toward LCSW licensure under the supervision of Jennifer Brown, LCSW of MySpectrum Counseling & Coaching. See Jennifer’s bio here.
Greg utilizes his personal experiences with the First Responder Community to guide his therapeutic approaches. Since the middle of 2023, Greg has been spearheading a wellness initiative for Law Enforcement throughout the Commonwealth in an attempt to bridge divides between the Mental Health Community and Law Enforcement Agencies. Essentially, the whole idea is to experience the work of an officer vicariously- this is done through continuous ride-alongs. In the event that a critical or traumatic call is experienced, they are now bonded by that call. This framework allows for discussing the event, whether in real time or after the fact, with a person that the officer is familiar with. For Greg, this has allowed him the real-time experience that informs his outpatient Teletherapy work with MySpectrum.
Greg has working relationships with various departments, including: First Precinct RPD, Henrico Police, and Chesterfield Police. Greg solely works with the First Responder community, and aims to help normalize the idea that it’s okay to not be okay. Greg has particular interest in reimagining what therapy looks like for this community, and is passionate about providing culturally competent, trauma informed care for people who see him.
Greg utilizes a forward thinking, inclusive approach to ensure that the people he sees are having their needs met. Greg is EMDR trained, and utilizes CBT therapy for a lot of his work. Greg also discusses his own personal journey to help ensure that the people who see him don’t feel alone, isolated or stigmatized. Greg is truly passionate about serving the First Responder community, and is also a part of many non-profit organizations that cater towards First Responder wellness.
When not working, Greg enjoys the outdoors, spending time with his family and shooting.
