Dr. David Gosling, LPC, NCC
Teletherapist
Dr. David Gosling received a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese History from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Loyola University Maryland, and a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from William & Mary. David is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia and a National Certified Counselor.
David’s professional experience prior to becoming a trained counselor includes over a decade of military service as a U.S. Army Infantry Officer, 3 years as a Rhode Island State Trooper, and numerous other positions focused on veterans’ advocacy and adolescent mentorship.
David specializes in work with men, veterans, adolescents, families, and couples. This breadth of specialization brings him to MySpectrum, to provide teletherapy across the state of Virginia.
David uses a trauma-informed approach to all counseling, with a theoretical base grounded in existentialism. In this manner, David works collaboratively with his client(s) to focus on the deepest issues of humanity, such as meaning, purpose, and identity. He uses a systems framework for family and couples counseling, with solution-focused, strengths-based methods for both groups and individual clients. Moving from a holistic perspective, he incorporates all facets of life into his work, to include relevant cultural, spiritual, and intersectional issues. David believes in the process of counseling as a co-journey between clinician and client, wherein a genuine relationship is formed to best facilitate a positive outcome for those seeking professional help. He considers it an honor and privilege to serve in this capacity.
David is an avid outdoorsman and spends his free time in the woods, hills, and waterways of Virginia. He is currently working to rehabilitate a depleted plot of land into a permaculture farm in central VA. He is also an amateur potter and enjoys spending time with his daughter more than anything else in the world.
